Why still pay funeral home prices for caskets?

<
Still even today most consumers don't realize that they can purchase caskets from sources other than funeral homes. However with the casket websites and casket stores that is slowly being changed. When you purchase a casket from another source, the funeral establishment by law is not allowed to charge you a handling fee, or refuse to accept the casket. This law changed in 1996. Funeral bundling is not allowed as well, similar to Microsoft bundling.

If the funeral homes were really looking out for our interest, we would not have been charged the exorbitant fees that we have been. Additionally with the recent acquisitions and mergers of the funeral homes, the professional service fees have sky rocketed as well. The "Family Owned Mortuary/Funeral Home" is namesake only. Be wary. Check with different funeral homes the prices can vary significantly.

Pricing of funeral arrangements is an item by item cost. Here is an example: if you were to have your funeral service in a chapel on the cemetery grounds, instead of the funeral home, you would probably eliminate the need for motorcycle escorts, which lead the funeral procession through the streets. Remember if the funeral home has to order these extra items, they increase their bottom line----profit.
